Teaching UX to the Kiddos

Teaching UX to the Kiddos

On November 15, 2023, I volunteered at Powell Elementary School in Washington DC to teach 4th graders and 1st graders about User Experience Design and Usability Research.

In 4th grade, we talked about their favorite features in Roblox, the challenges they face when it glitches, and how the interface could give better feedback to users to let them know what’s going on. I showed them a few websites I designed and a little bit of Figma.

In 1st grade, we talked about their favorite features on YouTube and even had a healthy debate over whether YouTube was better on the phone or the Television.

All in all. I had a great day introducing students to the wonderful world of UX. These children are brilliant and the teachers are amazing. I look forward to presenting at Career Day again in the future.
